8-16-2022 - State Board of Education

On Tuesday, August 16th around 9:30 am, the State Board of Education is hearing a presentation on the Read Act Assessment Review and will possibly approve a new list of assessments. (Their meeting is not in their regular building as it's being renovated. The address of this meeting is: 1525 Sherman St., Denver, CO 80203)

The Dyslexia Working Group has recommended that all approved Read Act assessments also screen for dyslexia. CDE added an optional dyslexia worksheet to the vendor applications for the Read Act Assessment review, so all assessments may not screen for dyslexia (since it was optional). Some of us are attending the meeting to give public comment to encourage the State Board Members to only approve assessments that also screen for dyslexia.

If any of you have personal experience with Read Act assessments not catching your dyslexic kids, it would be helpful if you could come downtown and give a speech! We are happy to chat if that helps! Comment below or email us at info@cokid.org if you'd like to give a speech! If you'd like to get further background info or need direction on a speech, please reach out.

We don't want to dominate all of the public comment period, but a handful of speakers would be great.
